An exploratory study on the perception on the rooming in system

Abstract
The purpose of this work was to explory the perception on the rooming in of mothers in the early postpartum, physicians, and nurses.
This significance was to contribute to the enforcement of rooming-in system in the early postpartum period. The early postpartum period is crucial toward in recovery from childbirth and attainment of the meternal role, especialy
mother-infant attachment. To foster mother-infant attachment, the rooming-in has been known as the most ideal approch, and for successful enforcement of rooming-in system, it is essential that mothers and health professionals
uprightly
perceive and actively particiapte on this system.
Data were gathered by 6-ithems semi-open questionaire on the perception on the rooming-in by researchers based on references and comments of professionals.
The data were collected from December 1 to 10, 1995 by semi-open questionaire with 11 nurses in nursery and obstetric ward. 11 physician in pediatrics and obstetrics, and 10 mothers in the early posypartum at B hospital in Pusan,
Korea.
The data were analyzed by use of descriptive statistics.
@ES The conclusion obtained from this study were summerized as follows:
@EN 1. The all subjects knew meaning of rooming-in; the main meaning of rooming-in was' togetherness of mother and infant' and early contact'.
2. In the attitude on the enforcement of rooming-in, nurses were all agreement. But about 40 percent of physicians and mothers rejected on the this system; main reasons of agreement were 'enhancement of mother-infant attachment', 'early
breast
feeding', and 'relieve of anxiety on neonate'.
On the other hands, main reasons of rejection were deficit of space and manpower', 'increase of infections deseases', 'mother's uncomfortness', and 'necessity of informal care-giver'.
3. The main perceptions on the problems of rooming-in system were 'deficit of space and manpower', 'increase of infectious diseases', 'mother's uncomfortness', and 'nessecity of informal care-giver'.
4. The desirable opinions on rooming-in system's were 'nursing education', 'part-time rooming-in', 'active support of nursing team', 'use of private room', and 'restriction of visiting person'.
